The Chain Tree in Wayanad, Kerala, is a famous tourist spot that has a unique legend associated with it. This historical and cultural landmark is located near Vythiri, along the highway connecting Kozhikode to Wayanad. The Chain Tree is an old Ficus tree, with a large chain hanging from it, and the story behind it is deeply rooted in local folklore. According to legend, during the British colonial era, a tribal chieftain named Karinthandan helped a British engineer find the path through the dense forests of Wayanad, leading to the discovery of what is now known as the Thamarassery Ghat pass.
